Rise of the Millennial caravanner
Twenty-somethings are camping and caravanning more than ever.

It’s official! Millennial's are not only buying more RVs, they’re using them more, according to figures released recently by the Caravan Industry Association of Australia.

Traditionally, it’s been the older grey nomads that have driven RV sales, and helped fill up caravan parks, but that appears to be changing with the stats showing younger people spending more time camping and caravanning.

In the 20- to 29-year-old age bracket, the number of camping and RV trips increased by 22 per cent – up to 2.2 million trips for the year ending June 2018. That’s off the back of a boost overall in the number of nights spent caravanning and camping in Australia over the same period, to a record 52.8 million nights.

Millennial's are also helping change the way RVs are bought and sold, as well as the way campsite bookings are made. Online bookings are now the norm in the holiday park and camping industry, spurred by increased use of mobile phones.
It’s a trend seen on caravancampingsales.com.au, where more than 60 per cent of visitors now access the site via their smartphones.

This growing youth market is not being ignored by Australia’s largest RV manufacturer, Jayco, which recently introduced a new entry-level JTRAK tent trailer. Priced from $17,990, the JTRAK is a direct rival to the big-selling Chinese brand camper trailers that have proved so popular in recent times with young families and couples on tight budgets.

Big-selling caravan manufacturer New Age is also targeting the Millennial market with its new entry-level Wayfinder model which delivers attractive automotive styling and engineering in a familiar, wind-up camper trailer design. 

What’s next? Look out for more cut-price motorhome offerings, targeting not only Millennial's but the rising swell of #vanlife wannabes…
